I-35 ends Mount Ayr’s season in district semis

CENTERVILLE – Mount Ayr’s baseball season came to an end Tuesday at the hands of Interstate 35 in the Class 2A District 11 semifinals by a final score of 13-2 in five innings.

Kolben Klommhaus crossed the plate in the top of the first inning to give the Raiders an early advantage, but the Roadrunners responded with four runs in the bottom half of the opening frame.

Lucas Wurster had a two-hit performance at the dish and Keelan Klommhaus drove in the lone RBI for Mount Ayr.

Isaac Grose took the loss on the hill, managing just one inning as command became an issue with five walks and six earned runs allowed.

Briar Knapp took over in the second inning as Interstate 35 added three runs in the second, one in the third and five additional tallies in the fifth.

Mount Ayr’s season ends with a 14-8 record and the Raiders will say goodbye to departing seniors Lucas Wurster, Zach Murphy, Brayden Swank, Marcus Daughton and Bradley Wurster.
