The city is not doing its job

From Sandra Kessler

Creston

On July 7, I phoned the police. The man answering said he had some other calls coming in. I told him some serious fireworks were going off, and he said he would send a car.

Two hours later, I called again, and he gave me the run around. No car was sent. The police were too busy.

OK! On the third call, he informed me the city council had approved fireworks could be shot off from July 4-7. These were definitely illegal fireworks as they were of the power and more that were shot on the Fourth sponsored by the city. Huge boomers that rattled windows and pictures a great distance from them.

Now my questions ...

• Was this published in the Creston paper, so neighbors and people could go to the council to nix this?

• Is it a state law that no fireworks are allowed in the city? If so, what right does the city council have to override the state? I don’t believe police are doing their job, if fireworks are illegal in the state.

• Why did the city council approve this?
