Area baseball and softball roundup: dualing NV splits

Softball

NV 14, Bedford 2 (4)

BEDFORD — Nodaway Valley softball rained down a flurry of hits in defeating Bedford 14-2 in one of two games Tuesday at Bedford.

The Wolverines leaped ahead 3-0 in the first, added six runs in the second, three in the third and finished it off with two in the fourth to win in four innings.

Kate Jensen smashed her way to a 3-for-3 performance with five RBIs.

Maddax DeVault posted a 4-4 game with three runs, a triple and an RBI.

Lexi Shike, Reagan Weinheimer and Alyssa Davis each contributed two hits each while. Weinheimer scored three runs while Davis, Shike and McKynna Newbury each scored twice.

Whitney Lamb struck out two, walked two and allowed four hits to pick up her first varsity pitching win.

Bedford 12, NV 4

Nodaway Valley held a 2-1 lead for most of Tuesday’s 12-4 loss to Bedford before an eight-run fifth inning broke open the game for the Bulldogs.

Natalie Yonker was in control as her defense played its part, before the Bulldogs broke through. Yonker pitched 4 and 1/3 innings.

Weinheimer posted the lone multi-hit game for NV (2-for-4) and had an RBI.

Davis tallied two runs driven in with a hit.

Whitney Lamb pitched the final 2 2/3 innings with one strikeout and one walk.

Baseball

Bedford 8, Nodaway Valley 7

BEDFORD — Nodaway Valley mounted a six-run comeback in the bottom of the seventh, but still fell 8-7 Tuesday before grabbing a win in the other game of the doubleheader.

Brady Hilpipre blasted his first home run of the season and the third of his varsity career and contributed four RBIs to the Wolverine cause.

Corbin Bond pitched five innings in relief, struck out three, walked one and allowed five hits. Peyton Sickles started, pitched two innings and took the loss.

Thomas Britten and Bond each had a hit and an RBI apiece.

Nodaway Valley 15, Bedford 5

Nodaway Valley kept the offensive onslaught going throughout a 10-run victory over Bedford.

NV posted a run in the first, three in the second, five in the fourth, one in the fifth, three in the sixth and two in the seventh. The Wolverines swiped 14 bags, with Tyler Vandewater’s three steals leading the way. Thompson and Nathan Cockburn both stole two bases each.

Three Wolverines, Bond, Vandewater and Sickles, contributed three hits apiece. Sickels contributed four RBIsand Bond added four more RBIs and had a triple.

Britten went 1-3 with two RBIs, a double and a run scored.

Thompson struck out four in six innings of work and picked up the win.

Hilpipre struck out two and used 10 pitches for a perfect seventh inning.

Lenox 14, East Union 5

AFTON — Lenox was tied with hosts EU 5-5 through four innings, but bashed the ball throughout the fifth through seventh innings in a 14-5 win Tuesday.

Derek Venteicher’s hitting led the way as he was 3-4 with two doubles and three RBIs.

Brenden Christensen added a 2-4 day with three runs, a double and an RBI.

Zach Schmitz and Aaron Schmitz each added a RBI.

Levi Exline, Trevor Jones, Colton Abell and Kaden Kirkland all pitched for EU in the loss. Exline pitched for 3 and 1/3 innings.

Both Jones and Abell recorded an RBI apiece for the Eagles, while Jones, Abell, Joshua Hardy and Ethan Mitchell added a hit apiece.

Colton Gordon picked up the pitching win with four strikeouts, four walks and three hits surrendered over his 4 1/3 innings of work on the hill. Cullen Wood and Drew Venteicher combined to finish off the game.

Wednesday

Softball

Murray 12, Essex 0 (3)

MURRAY — Bre Klein did not allow a hit in three innings and struck out seven as Murray defeated visiting Essex Wednesday, 12-0 in three innings.

Kayla Wookey whacked her first home run of the season, had a double and drove home five RBIs.

Kendra Boles was 2-for-2 with a double, two runs and an RBI.

Emma Decker also posted two hits, two runs and an RBI.

Baseball

Essex/South Page 7, Murray 3

MURRAY — Mustangs baseball was locked in a battle with visiting Essex/South Page Wednesday but fell 7-3.

Murray led 3-2 entering the fifth, but the visitors put two runs on the board in the fifth and four in the sixth.

Reece Held went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.

Brycen Wookey and Jace Rodecker each had a hit and an RBI and Tivon Spurgeon added another RBI.

Jimmy Graham and Held both cracked doubles.

Wookey pitched five innings, gave up four hits, three runs, three walks and struck out five.

Held, Payton Flaherty and Kegan Johnson also pitched with Johnson taking the loss.

Central Decatur 20, Orient-Macksburg 0 (4)

LEON — The Cardinals posted 16 runs in the first inning and cruised to a 20-0 win in four inning over Orient-Macksburg Wednesday.

Four Cardinals recorded multiple hits and nine CD players had at least a hit.

Blake Sevier had the lone O-M hit, while Derek Gross and Carson Thompson pitched in the loss.
