Area roundup: O-M a walkoff winner

Orient-Macksburg 4, Seymour 3

ORIENT – O-M eight grader Chase Walker led the Bulldogs to a comeback, walkoff 4-3 win over Seymour Tuesday with a base knock that scored Derek Gross.

The Bulldogs managed just three hits along with five walks, but made them count. Blake Thompson, Wiley Ray, Blake Sevier and Walker each drove in a run for Orient-Macksburg.

Gross drew two walks and lined a hit, scoring two of the three times he got on base.

Ray took the ball from Thompson in the first inning and went the distance, pitching 6 1/3 innings with seven strikeouts and allowed just four hits.

The two O-M pitchers didn’t walk a Seymour batter.

Monday

Central Decatur 10, Murray 0

MURRAY – Central Decatur’s Ricky Marcus and David Walker combined to throw a five-inning one-hitter against Murray Monday in a 10-0 win.

Reece Held was the lone Mustang to reach base.

Jace Rodecker managed just 2/3 of an inning, taking the loss as he allowed three earned runs in that span. Rodecker put together two strikeouts for the two outs.

Aden Cosner took over in relief and allowed just two hits, but walked five batters, giving up five earned runs.

Saturday

Mount Ayr 10, Exira-EHK 0

GRISWOLD – Mount Ayr jumped on top of Exira-EHK early with a six-spot in the opening frame and never let up on its way to a 10-0 five-inning win Saturday at the Griswold Tournament.

Sophomore shortstop Sam Stewart went 3-for-3 at the plate, clocking a single, double and triple along with four RBIs.

Addy Reynolds knocked in another two runs when her lone hit sailed over the fence for a home run.

Caroline McAlexander grabbed her 10th win in the circle this season with a two-hit shutout over four innings of work with eight strikeouts.

Mount Ayr 9,

Griswold 6

GRISWOLD – The Raiderettes opened up the second game of the Griswold tournament with another 6-0 lead, but Griswold fought back before Mount Ayr put them away, 9-6.

Alyssa Johnson had a solid day at the plate, going 3-3 with a double, three RBIs and a stolen base.

Stewart was the only other Raiderette to record a multi-hit game and posted two RBIs for her effort.

Samantha Schaefer started the game in the circle, but was replaced by Reynolds who went on to pick up the win with 2 2/3 innings of one earned run stuff.Reynolds also sent seven Griswold batters back to the bench on strikes.

Monday

Wayne 8, Lenox 0

CORYDON – Wayne snapped Lenox’s eight-game winning streak with an 8-0 win Monday.

Jessica Anderson, Morgan Parrish, TJ Stoaks and McKinna Hogan each smacked a hit apiece for the Tigers’ four hits.

Stoaks took the loss in the circle, giving up four earned runs in six innings of work while striking out six.

Murray 7, Central Decatur 2

MURRAY – Kayla Wookey pitched a two-hit gem in the Lady Mustangs’ 7-2 win over Central Decatur Monday.

Wookey and Zadie Hatfield both tallied doubles in the victory. Kelli Romero, Bre Klein Megan Johnston and Wookey (two) all drove in runs while at the plate.

Klein registered the lone multi-hit game for Murray as well.

Mormon Trail 15, Diagonal 14

GARDEN GROVE – Diagonal held a 14-12 lead going into the bottom of the seventh inning against conference foe Mormon Trail when the Saintes rallied with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to win it.

Cassidy Lohmann drove in five runs for the Maroonettes in a 15-14 loss Monday. Bailey Taylor and Emma Cunningham both drove in three runs for Diagonal as well. Maddie Lohmann punched in an additional two runs and Emily Newton added another.

As a team Diagonal drew 13 walks at the dish.

Katie Sobotka was charged with the loss, giving up 15 runs (five of which were earned).
