O’Brien wins SLMR

CORNING – Ninety-eight cars hit the dirt at the Adams County Speedway on Saturday night for Crop Production Services Night. The Malvern Bank Super Late Model Racing Series made its first appearance at ACS this season, as many of the top late model drivers in the Midwest took to the dirt.

Action began on Saturday night with the Chat Mobility Hobby Stocks. Tom Myers and Jerid Lund started on the front row but it was Luke Ramsey who quickly took the lead. Ramsey’s teammate Andy Davison lurked behind Ramsey and tried many different lines to get around Ramsey. Two late-race cautions gave Davison a clean opportunity to pass Ramsey, but he could not capitalize, and Ramsey captured his fifth win of the season. Lund finished third, David Weeda fourth and Anthony Fletchall took home fifth.

The Stalker Chevrolet B-Modifieds were the next to hit the dirt. Cody Werner and David Orr started on the top five. Josh Sink started in third and wasted no time assuming the race lead. Sink’s Edge Chassis counterpart Jerod Weston quickly followed him into the second spot. Weston kept his 86j machine wound to the high-side and let Sink know that he was there in the closing laps, but Weston could not find a way around Sink. allowing him to pick up his third win of the season. Werner finished third, last week’s winner Daniel Baudler finished fourth and Kyle Tanner took home fifth.

The Northland Oil Stock Cars kept the action rolling on Saturday night. Tony Hardisty and Joe Zadina started on the front row and it was Hardisty who quickly took the lead. Hardisty began to pull away from the field, but Zadina began to reel Hardisty in with five laps to go. Zadina constantly knocked a few tenths of a second off Hardisty’s lead and had an opportunity to pass him on the final lap but went off the track on the backstretch, allowing Hardisty to hold on to the win for his fourth of the season. Buck Schafroth wound up in second, Eric Rempel took home third, Zadina rebounded from his last lap mishap for a fourth-place finish and Johnathan Kinser rounded out the top five.

Twenty-six Malvern Bank Super Late Model Racing Series cars came to ACS on Saturday night. Corey Zeitner and Paul Glendenning started on the front-row. Zeitner quickly opened a decent lead on the field. A red flag came out in the initial stages of the race because of a rollover accident from Steve McConnell’s 34 machine. Luckily, McConnell walked away from the action unscathed.

Action resumed and Zeitner appeared to be on his way to his second win of the season. However, that would not be the case as Zeitner’s bright orange No. 6 machine looped coming off turn four to take the checkered flag. Zeitner’s spin brought out the caution and handed Jason O’Brien the race lead. O’Brien had to hold off a hard charge from Andrew Kosiski, but he did it and collected his first career SLMR win at his home track. Kosiski held on for second, Bill Leighton Jr. finished third, Paul Glendenning took home fourth and Kyle Berck rounded out the top five.

Fifteen Poet Bio-Refining Modifieds took to the track next. Red Oak native Josh Most quickly assumed the race lead with an aggressive inside pass on the first lap. Most kept his 92-machine dialed in and appeared to have the fastest car throughout most of the night. However, Jesse Dennis also proved that he had a fast number 70 machine. Dennis frequently showed Most that he had something for him, but Most kept holding off his charges. Most took the white flag and appeared to be on his way to his second win of the season, but like Zeitner in the late model features, turn four snuck up and bit Most as his 92-machine washed up the track and allowed Dennis to steal the win for his third of the year. Jared Stiens took home second, Most rebounded for a third-place finish, Randy Foote took home fourth and Jacob Hobscheidt rounded out the top-five.

Action concluded on Saturday night with the Tri-State Ford Compacts. Last week’s winner Chris Vannausdle started on the pole. The Villisca native quickly jumped out to the race lead. It was a rough night for Bedford native Bradyn Thompson, as his brand new 24b machine went for a wild ride in the preliminary stages of the race. Despite the scary roll, Thompson managed to walk away from the accident unscathed. When action resumed, Vannausdle picked up where he left off, holding off a hard-charging Dustin Grout. Grout tried frantically to pick up his first career win, but Vannausdle held him off for his third win of the season. Grout took home a career-best second place finish, Colton Garside took home a career-best third place finish. Buddy Haidsiak finished fourth and Andrew Akers rounded out the top five.

All military and first-responders will get in free this week at the Adams County Speedway. Hot laps will begin at 6:30 p.m. with racing to follow at approximately 7.
