CCHS students perform in musical theater awards showcase

Creston Community High School students will participate in the 2018 Iowa High School Musical Theater Awards Showcase, presented by EMC Insurance Companies, in honor of the school’s achievements for its November production of “The Wedding Singer.”

Produced by Des Moines Performing Arts as the culmination of a year-long education initiative, the showcase will be held 7 p.m. Monday, June 4, at the Des Moines Civic Center, and will recognize a total of 68 schools from across the entire state.

Sasha Smith, Angel Stow and Jae Fehrle will represent CCHS by performing in a collaborative inter-school medley led by guest Broadway music director, Adam Jones, and choreographer, Sara Brians.

Jae Fehrle will perform an excerpt from her award-winning role in “The Wedding Singer,” as Robbie Hart’s Grandma Rosie.

CCHS will also be recognized with the following awards and honors:

Distinguished scene – “Move That Thang”

Outstanding performance in a principal role – Jae Fehrle as “Rosie”

Special recognition for ensemble

Special recognition for performance in a principal role – John Reasoner as “Robbie Hart”

Special recognition for stage management – Mackenzie Bodell

Tickets to the showcase, which start at $15, are on sale at www.dmpa.org, Civic Center ticket office and by phone at 515-246-2300.

For the first time, the showcase will be live-streamed at www.iptv.org as part of an exciting collaboration with Iowa Public Television. IPTV will air a highlights special of the evening later this summer.
