Vyrle Baker, 83, of Creston, formerly of Leon and Red Oak, died Saturday, April 21, 2018, at Creston Specialty Care in Creston.
A celebration of life graveside memorial service will be held at a later date. Powers Funeral Home, 601 New York Ave., in Creston is assisting with arrangements. Burial will be in North Fairview Cemetery in Lenox. Memorials can be given to Afton Assembly of God Church or Greater Regional EMT unit. Online condolences may be left at www.powersfh.com.
Vyrle Patrick Baker, son of Stephen Lawrence Baker and Victoria Ann (Cooper) Baker, was born July 1, 1934, in Leon. Vyrle was educated in Leon schools. Vyrle served his country in the United States Marine Corps for two years.
On Jan. 4, 1974, Vyrle Baker married Margaret (Shawler) Calvin. They settled in Lenox, prior to moving to Red Oak in July 1974, where he worked for the water department for the next 24 years. After retiring in June 1998, Vyrle moved to Creston, where he worked for Creston Community Schools for 10 years as a crossing guard.
Vyrle was a member of Red Oak Assembly of God Church and Afton Assembly of God Church.
Vyrle is survived by his son Scott Baker of Rancho Paloes Verdes, California; stepsons, David (Penny) Calvin of Columbia, Maryland, Jerry (Sherri) Calvin of Lenox and Michael (Pam) Calvin of Fredricksburg, Virginia; sisters, Fern (Pete) Salas of Chyenne, Wyoming, and Laverne (Jack) Willis of Clive; grandchildren, Stephanie (Brian) Wallace, Joe Calvin, Heith (Allison) Kitzman, Lincoln Calvin, Grant (Lacie) Calvin, Justus (Jinmei Zhang) Calvin, Cathy (Fred) Bishop, Kerry Polous and Kathy Palin; great-grandchildren, Breanna and Brodie Wallace, Karly, Aleah and Dylan Calvin, Keigan, Dalton and Dax Kitzman, Bronx Calvin, Hailey, Joshua, Mia and Lucia Bishop; Rae and Kierra Harris, Mason Palin, and Demetrius and Eva Karaginnis; sister-in-law Janice (Ron) Spurr of Creston; brother-in-law Greg (Sherry) Shawler of Creston and many nieces and nephews.
Vyrle was preceded in death by his parents; wife Margaret in January 2018; sisters, Pauline (Earl) McCullough and Bernice Curtwright; brother Earl Baker and sister-in-law Darlene Baker.
