Joan David, 86, of rural Orient died Sunday, April 22, 2018, at Creston Specialty Care in Creston.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, April 26, at Steen Funeral Home, 525 Maple St., in Fontanelle with burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery in rural Prescott. A luncheon will be held at Avondale United Methodist Church following the committal services at the cemetery. The Rev. Cathy Nutting will officiate the service. Open visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Nellie Joan David, daughter of Louis Franklin and Reba Mae (Steward) Edwards, was born March 1, 1932, near Orient. Joan was raised on a farm near Orient and graduated from Richland High School in 1949.

On Oct. 28, 1950, she married Francis David in the Fontanelle United Methodist Church parsonage. They made their home in Union County. In 1955, they purchased the farm where they lived until Joan entered the nursing home in 2017. Joan was a housewife and nurse’s aide, and had worked for Good Samaritan Society in Fontanelle and Orient Sale Barn in the kitchen.

Joan is survived by her children, Dean (Janice) David of Lenox, Daniel (LaDonna) David of Orient, Arlene (Jamie) Ray of Leavenworth, Kansas, and Dallas (Betty) David of Orient; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; brother Larry (Judy) Edwards of Boone; and other relatives and friends.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents; husband Francis in 2006 and mother- and father-in-law, Bertha and Clarence David.
