Golf team hits the links

Nodaway Valley’s golf teams finally got on the course with a meet against Van Meter and West Central Valley.

Van Meter won the triangular with a score of 168, followed by WCV with 182 and NV at 337.

“It was the first nine hole meet that three of our four golfers have played,” said coach Steve Shantz. “With limited practices, they handled themselves well and kept their frustration down. They are enjoying the sport and will continue to improve.”

Colton Gross led the Wolverines with a round of 74. Colton Newbury carded an 81, followed by Ryan Hull at 91 and Dan Jorgensen with a 95.

Megan Russell is the lone representative for the girls. Russell finished with a final score of 58.

“She started well but got tired on her last few holes,” Shantz said. “She really hit the ball straight and long early, but alignment issues and over swinging late hurt her. She could have easily been in the high 40s to low 50s. We need more practice time to work on routine and ranging her distance.”
