Career-bests headline SWCC women at Region XI Championship

ANKENY – Bianca Findlay finished in the top 10 of the NJCAA Region XI Championship over the weekend.

Findlay shot a 175 in two 18-hole rounds of play, with respective rounds of 86 and 89.

Sydney Goltl shot a 194, earning her 14th place in the tournament. Goltl shot a career-best round of 90 to start the tournament.

Goltl wasn’t the only Spartan to set a new career-low, as Hayley Osmun, of Creston shot a 92 in the second round, setting a new bar for herself.

Both marks excited head coach Doug North.

“I cannot get over what happened this weekend. Sydney (Goltl) with a career-best, 90, and Hayler (Osmun) with a career-best 92. Both at our Regional Championship!! Buy-in ladies and gentlemen and GREAT things will happen,” said North via the Southwestern Community College golf twitter account.

Overall, Goltl and Osmun shot a 184 and 200, respectively. The mark earned Goltl tied for 14th, while Osmun finished in 23rd.

Megan Fairchild, of Stuart was the fourth Spartan golfer to take part in the weekend’s event, shooting a 246 over the 36-hole contest.

Southwestern finished sixth as a team with an overall score of 805.

Iowa Western finished the day with the best team score, shooting a 661. The Reviers also had the top indiviudal, Lisa Lied, who shot matching 71s to register a 142 overall total for the tournament.

UP NEXT – The men will head to Panora May 5-6 for the Region XI men’s championship.
