Doris Gilbertson

Doris Gilbertson, 70, of Churdan, formerly of Creston, died Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Celebration of life service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 21, at Powers Funeral Home, 601 New York Ave., in Creston. Burial will be in Moon Cemetery near Macksburg. Visitation with family present will be from 1 to 2 p.m. service time Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family. Online condolences may be left at www.powersfh.com.

Doris Jean Gilbertson, daughter of Otto Barnes and Edna Belle (Simpson), was born Nov. 25, 1947, in Council Bluffs along with her twin brother Darrell Eugene. Doris grew up in Creston. They all moved to Creston in 1955, where Doris attended school.

On Aug. 14, 1965, Doris married Larry Gilbertson in Creston. Doris worked at various jobs throughout her married life, but the one she loved best was working for her pastor and church in Jefferson.

She was a longtime member of Assembly of God Church in Jefferson.

Doris is survived by her husband Larry Gilbertson of Churdan; daughter Shelley (fiancé Wade) of Scranton; son Danny (Michele) of Jefferson; grandchildren, Star, Robin, Robert (Bubba), Elizabeth, Cody and Sadie; great-grandchildren, Aiden, Izaiah, Bentley, Kaylee and Mia; brothers, Don Barnes of Creston and Bob (Jean) Barnes of Atlantic; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Edna Barnes; daughter Brenda in 1981; twin brother Darrell; parents-in-law, Ray and Clara Gilbertson and many relatives and friends.
