Dee Carns-Robertson, 86, of Fontanelle died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Celebration of life services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 28, at United Methodist Church in Greenfield with burial in Fontanelle Cemetery. A luncheon will be held following the committal services at the church. The Rev. Eric Schubert will officiate the service. Open visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 27, at Steen Funeral Home, 101 SE Fourth St., in Greenfield with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to Adair County Historical Society in Greenfield. Deloris Raper Carns-Robertson, daughter of Noel and Marie Ruby Raper, was born Aug. 13, 1931, near Canby in Adair County. She grew up in Greenfield.

On Dec. 31, 1947, she married Harold Carns. They started farming north of Bridgewater, where she was a farmwife. In 1969, they moved to Anita. She served as justice of the peace, and they were foster parents of 18 children and worked with probation officers for both Cass and Harrison counties. She worked full time at Anita High School as a study hall supervisor and flag corps director for 13 years. Then she worked at the Atlantic High School for two years in charge of in-school suspension. When they retired, they spent nine years working summers at Adventureland Park in Des Moines.

In 1995, Harold and Dee moved to Greenfield, and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1997. Harold died March 14, 1999.

In her later years, she spent a lot of time volunteering at the mealsite, Adair County Tourism, Adair Historical Museum, Area 14 Agency for Aging, older Iowans legislator and was a certified lobbyist for the seniors of Iowa, for which she received the governor’s award for volunteering. She was a member of Greenfield Methodist Church and Red Hats.

On Oct. 18, 2004, she married Edgar Robertson and moved to Diagonal. In 2011, they moved to Fontanelle.

Deloris is survived by her son Michael Carns of Des Moines; son-in-law Jack (Renee) Williams of Dexter; stepdaughter Jeanette (Michael) Abrams of Chicago, Illinois; stepson Kenneth Robertson of Des Moines; sister Karen Long of Fontanelle; brothers, Dick Raper of Foulton, Missouri, John (Phyllis) Raper of Hungry Horst, Montana; Jerry (Edie) Raper of Phoenix, Arizona, and Dan (Betty) Raper of Lenexa, Kansas; brothers-in-law, Ralph (Pat) Lane of Greenfield and LeRoy Nelson of Fontanelle; sisters-in-law, Itha Carns of Fontanelle, Letty Larkin of Mesa, Arizona, Sally Raper of Morrow, Georgia, and Marjorie Mattson of Johnston; step-granddaughter Paullette (Mark) Strahl of Dexter; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Deloris was preceded in death by both husbands, Harold Carns and Edgar Robertson; daughter Nancy Williams; parents, Noel and Marie Raper; sister Phyllis Raper Lane; brothers, Ernest Raper and Keith Raper; sisters-in-law, Roberta Nelson, Mary Sorensen, Gladys Sheldon and Pauline Raper; brothers-in-law, Donnie Carns, Donald Sorensen and Sonny Larkin; stepson Bill Robertson; three nieces and one nephew.
