Corning

Glenn Joel Archer, 77, of Corning died Saturday, March 10, 2018, at CHI Mercy Hospital in Corning.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 16, at Pearson Family Funeral Service and Cremation Center, 701 Seventh St., in Corning. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 17, at the funeral home. The Rev. Andrew Bardole and the Rev. Marietta Nelson-Bittle will officiate. Military honors will be provided by Iowa National Guard Honor Guard and Corning American Legion OURCQ Post No. 117. After the service, a committal prayer will take place in Lincoln Center Cemetery in rural Adams County, followed by a reception at Strand Evangelical Lutheran Church. Memorials may be directed to the family to be determined. Glenn, son of Jack and Margaret Vesta (Findley) Archer, was born Sept. 14, 1940, in Villisca, and graduated from Villisca High School in 1958. He joined the Army National Guard on Oct. 2, 1958, and was honorably discharged Oct. 1, 1962.

On April 14, 1962, Glenn married Mary Louise Gustin in Grant. Glenn moved to his farm in Corning in 1965 and started farming with his father where he raised hogs and cattle as well as corn, soybeans and hay for more than 50 years. In addition, Glenn operated his bulldozing construction business for more than 40 years building terraces, lakes and ponds throughout southwest Iowa.

On Dec. 30, 1997, Glenn married Janette Lynn Giles in South Dakota.

Glenn was a member of Adams County Cattlemen Association, National Rifle Association and Nodaway Saddle Club.

Glenn is survived by his wife Jan of Corning; children, Brenda (Keith) Longabaugh of Corning, Lauri (John) Hewett of Red Oak and Renee (Brad) Durnin of St. Louis, Missouri; stepchildren, Tara (Teddy) Ross of Des Moines, Gabe (Melissa) Shatava of Corning, Josh (Colette) Shatava of Clarinda and Caleb (Ryanne) Shatava of Clarinda; 25 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother Stan (Leisa) Archer of Clarinda; brother-in-law Dwight (Rhonda) Giles of Greeley, Colorado; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Glenn was preceded in death by his parents and sister and brother-in-law, Janis and Jim Scott.
