Spartans qualify for national tournament

SWCC takes Region XI title game over ICCAC

Southwestern played one of its most efficient offensive games of the season and held superstar scorer Trey Croft in check enough to clinch an NJCAA Division II national tournament berth for the second consecutive season.

The Spartans defeated Iowa Central 97-79 in the Region XI title game to keep alive the dream of winning a second consecutive national championship in men's basketball.

Six different Spartans scored in double figures. Alijah Thomas scored 18 while Gatdoar Kueth and Terence Shelby Jr. each scored 17 apiece.

SWCC led by 13 at the break and was up by as much as 23 before coasting to another regional title.

Croft scored 28 to lead the Tritons.
