Mathew Louis Scherer, 35, 1303 Clayton Rd., was charged with operating while intoxicated 10:55 p.m. Friday on the corner of East Howard and North Chestnut streets.

According to a Creston Police report, Scherer was driving when he lost control of his vehicle after attempting to pass two trucks and trailers on East Howard Street, spun around and ran into the rear end of one trailer before coming to a stop in the yard of a home on the corner of East Howard and North Chestnut streets. Scherer had an odor of an alcoholic beverage and was taken to the Law Enforcement Center where he consented to a breath sample, which showed his blood alcohol level to be .198.

Scherer was released from Union County Jail on $1,000 bond.

Lois Lynn Taylor, 43, 107 N. Division St., was charged with fifth-degree theft 11:56 p.m. Friday at 806 Laurel St.

According to a Creston Police report, Taylor concealed items from Wal-Mart valued at $12.61 and attempted to leave the store with the items.

Taylor was released on a promise to appear.

Cassondra Arni, 32, 204 S. Vine St., was charged on a Clinton County, Missouri, warrant for failure to obey judge’s orders on an original count of possession of a controlled substance – marijuana and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia 6:40 p.m. Saturday at 110 N. Maple St.

Arni was transferred to the custody of Clinton County.

Jonathan Bruce Selim, 58, 211 N. Division St., was charged with second-offense operating while intoxicated 1:46 a.m. Sunday on the 800 block of West Taylor Street.

According to a Creston Police report, Selim was driving while impaired by alcohol. Selim admitted to driving from a downtown business to the parking lot of the Casey’s on West Taylor Street, where he was found in the driver’s seat with the engine running. Selim had bloodshot, watery eyes and slurred speech, and he consented to sobriety testing. He refused to comply with instructions because of his impairement, and refused other tests. He consented to a breath test, which showed a blood alcohol concentration of .170.

Selim was released from Union County Jail on $2,000 bond.

Jeffery Gene Campbell II, 21, of Des Moines, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and on a Polk County warrant for third-degree theft 6:16 p.m. Sunday at 1301 E. Howard St.

According to a Creston Police report, Campbell was picked up for probation violation warrants and during the investigation, officers discovered he was in possession of a glass pipe with residue consistent with methampetamine.

Campbell was being held in the Union County Jail awaiting transfer to Polk County.

Tyler Lee Ray, 20, 210 N. Walnut St., was charged with driving while suspended and on a Union County warrant for probation violation 10:16 p.m. Sunday on the 200 block of Union Street.

According to a Creston Police report, an officer made a routine traffic stop on Ray after he noticed that a headlight was out on Ray’s vehicle. Upon approach, the officer noticed two males in the front seat of the vehicle and identified Ray as the driver, and upon asking for driver’s license, proof of insurance and registration, the only thing Ray produced was an insurance card, and when the officer asked again for Ray’s license, Ray stated that he did not have a license and that it was suspended. While checking the information, the officer found that Ray also had a warrant for a probation violation.

Ray was being held in the Union County Jail on $2,000 bond.
