Shirley Wilmeth, 79, of Creston died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018, at Greater Regional Hospice Home/HCI in Creston.

Celebration of life services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 23, at Powers Funeral Home, 601 New York Ave., in Creston. The Rev. Chuck Spindler will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, east of Afton. Open visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home, with a 7 p.m. Eastern Star service. Memorials are to be made in Shirley's name. Shirley Jean Wilmeth, daughter of William “Lester” McKay and Neatha (Akers) McKay, was born June 17, 1938, in Sharpsburg. She graduated from Sharpsburg High School in 1957.

She was married to Guy Lawrence Jr., and they later divorced.

On April 2, 1987, Shirley married Glen A. Wilmeth in Creston. She was a homemaker for many years and also a caretaker for many families over the years. From 1987 to 1996 she worked for the United States Postal Service, Bernings Restaurant, Blimpie for a short time and for the past four years, she has worked for PerMar Security at Wellman Dynamics, retiring in December 2017.

Shirley was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Greenfield and Osceola.

Shirley is survived by her daughter Ruth (Kenneth) Batten of Creston; son Isaac (Angelina) Herrera Jr. of Creston; grandchildren, Colton Knipfer, Ashley Knipfer, Cassandra Batten, Matthew Borha, Isaac Herrera III and Emily Herrera; brothers, Mac McKay of Corning and Roland (Rochelle) McKay of Ft. Dodge and sister Leota “Pinkie” Collins of Tingley.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, husband Glen Wilmeth in 2006, sister Rosalie Bolinger and brother-in-law Weldon Bolinger, sister-in-law Mary McKay and brother in-law Dale Collins.
