Southern Prairie YMCA news

The Olympics are in full swing, so Southern Prairie YMCA is having its own winter pool Olympics at the Y. Bring the whole family to Family Fun Night from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16. There will be organized activities including volleyball, relays, splash contest and more. From 7:30 to 8 p.m. will be awards and open swim. Family Fun Night is free for members and day pass rates for non-members. A family pass for the night is just $11.

Indoor T-ball wiffle ball at the YMCA is scheduled for Saturday mornings in March. Registrations will be taken up to the start date on March 3. Learn batting, pitching, base running and fun, all inside the Y gym.  Players should bring a glove, if they have one. Wiffle ball is open to boys and girls ages 3 to 8 and will run Saturday mornings at 10:30 a.m. March 3, 10, 17 and 24. Cost is $15 for members or $20 for non-members.

Southern Prairie YMCA is offering a lifeguard certification class Saturdays in March. Students must be age 15. Class is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays, March 10, 17 and 24. Register at the YMCA. This class will be needed for anyone wanting to lifeguard as a summer job. Cost is $120 for members or $160 for non-members.

The YMCA has opened the gym on Sunday nights for adult open soccer. This is Sunday evenings from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and is $5 per person. There are also basketball pickup games from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. Members can play for free, non-members can play basketball during this time for just $2 per person.

Registration is open for group swimming lesson sessions in March and April. Spots are limited so register early to guarantee your child a spot. Evening lessons will run at 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday nights for two weeks. Group lessons are for ages 4 and up. Get your child off to an early start on summer or help them swim year-round at the YMCA.

Tot Town is gym time at the Y for toddlers. Tot Town is from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday and Thursdays. Toys like toddler cruisers and other fun things are brought out and the kids can work on gross motor skills while they play. Open for boys and girls ages 1 to 5 along with their parent/caregiver. Tot Town is free for YMCA members and for non-members it’s just $1 per child.
