5 minutes with Clayton Davis, CCHS Large Group Speech team member

AGE: 17, I almost forgot.

HOMETOWN: Columbia City, Indiana

FAMILY: I have a stepdad here and my mom. They both work at the hospital.

WHAT EVENTS ARE YOU COMPETING IN? I am competing in choral reading and I got a I at state for reader's theatre.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE EVENT? I think it has to be choral reading. I love choral reading. I think it might be some of the references to other movies that it has intertwined throughout that I really enjoy.

WHAT IS YOUR ROLE? We differentiate it based off our vocal ranges, so I'm usually in the medium or the lows. We'll have solos intertwined throughout. Last year I was the officer and then this year I'm just a regular hobbit.

WHAT’S THE BEST PART OF SPEECH COMPETITIONS? By far has to be the random people that will walk up to you and say some of the weirdest stuff you'll ever hear in your life. It is so weird, it shakes me to my core sometimes.

WHAT IS THE MOST EMBARRASSING THING THAT HAS HAPPENED TO YOU DURING A COMPETITION? Actually, during my state performance for reader's theatre, my mom had bought me a brand new pair of pants because she thought they would fit just right. They were a little snug, but they were all right. When I was in reader's theatre, I went to go flop down on the ground, but what happened was around my crotch, it ripped up on a tack and shredded my pants in front of the judges. I tried playing it off as best as I could by throwing my leg over. That might have been the most embarrassing thing that ever happened to me.

FAVORITE SONG RIGHT NOW: My favorite song has to be "Left Behind" by Slipknot. There's no questions about that. I'm telling you, that song is perfect.

FUNNIEST TEAMMATE: There's a lot of people, especially of the people who like to hang around me. They're pretty funny.
