Funeral celebration of life services for Stephen Marxen, age 68, of Lenox, who passed away Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018, at his home, will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, at Lenox Community Center. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services with the family greeting friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to ALS Angels or Lenox United Presbyterian Church. Stephen Worthy Marxen, known as Worthy to his friends, was born Sept. 14, 1949, to Donald Leroy and Norma Ruth (Brown) Marxen in Creston. From complications of ALS, he passed away Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018, in his home. He had a younger sister Barbara Jean and two younger brothers, Robert Allen and Ralph Dean.
He went to Bridgewater-Fontanelle grade schools and then, when the family moved to Creston in 1964, he attended Creston Junior High graduating Creston High School with the class of 1967. He entered the U.S. Army in 1969 and served a tour in Vietnam. His tour was cut short due to injury, and he returned home in 1971, when he met and married Betty Lou Murdock. They had three children Rebecca Jane, Clinton Worthy and Brenda Ruth. He farmed in the Lenox community until 1990, and then worked at Taylor Ridge Estates until 2012. Steve enjoyed horseback riding, motorcycle trips, camping, spending times with family, friends, Big Bad Bravo brothers and Thursdays coffee group.
Survivors are his wife Betty; daughter Becky; her spouse Mike and children, Zach, Jace and Jocelyn; Claire, Anna, Jacob, Cooper and their mother Leah; daughter Brenda; her spouse Tim; and children, Christopher and Nicole; his brother Ralph and other loving family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Barbara, brother Robert and son Clint.
Steve served his country and his community.
He loved and cared for his wife and family.
He was a life well lived.
