Local survey coming from 319 area code

Local efforts have begun to complete a Laborshed employment study for the Union County Laborshed area. The Union County Development Association is partnering with Iowa Workforce Development’s Regional Research Bureau to complete this study.

Laborshed refers to individuals available for and willing to work within a defined area.

The area has been defined by local area employers and this survey is the next step towards completing this study. A confidential household telephone survey will be conducted in those identified areas. The survey call originates out of Cedar Rapids, therefore, the incoming number will have the 319 area code. The survey questions will cover topics such as employment status, current and desired wages, current and desired benefits, education level and type of occupation among other things. Survey results will be applied to demographic data to determine the size of the Union County Laborshed area labor force as well as reveal various labor force characteristics unique to the area.

Iowa Workforce Development will not be asking survey takers any identifiable information such as name, social security number or date of birth.

“This survey is a great tool to help us identify the needs of our local workforce, we greatly appreciate all those that participate,” said Wayne Pantini, local area director at Union County Development Association (UCDA).

The results for each county and regional Laborshed analysis that has been conducted by Iowa Workforce Development is available online at www.iowaworkforcedevelopment.gov/laborshed.
