Orient-Macksburg 45, Essex 44
LENOX – Dewayne Figgins hit a shot with 10 seconds left the give the Bulldogs a 45-44 lead over Essex Monday. A lead that O-M held onto to advance to play Bedford Thursday.
Essex had a chance to tie it or take the lead, but missed two free throws with 0.5 seconds left on the clock. Figgins finished with 19 points in the win while Carson Thompson added 10.
The win was O-M’s second of the season. The Bulldogs will take on the Bedford Bulldogs at 8 p.m. Thursday.
East Union 41
LAMONI – East Union’s season came to a close Monday with a 15-point loss to a now 15-6 Lamoni squad.
The Eagles will lose three seniors in Kyle Campbell, Trevor Jones and Brayden Martinez, heading into next year.
Southwest Valley 52, Clarinda 48
CLARINDA – Jentry Schafer’s double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds helped lead the way for a 52-48 win for Southwest Valley over Clarinda on Saturday.
The Timberwolves led by five points at the break and held onto that lead throughout the second half.
Kayley Myers (12) and Morgan Shuey (10) were the other two Southwest Valley players to finish in double figures on the score sheet.
Defense was a big key for the Timberwolves as they held Clarinda to under 33 percent shooting from the field.
Thanks to the win, Southwest Valley continues its season on Tuesday when they battle with Nodaway Valley for the third time this winter. The Wolverines have taken both matchups from the Timberwolves so far this season.
