Joyce Means, 71, of Creston died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018, at Creston Specialty Care.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, at Pearson Family Funeral Service and Cremation Center, 809 W. Montgomery St., in Creston with the Rev. John Rutz officiating. Open visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Visitation with family present will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday prior to the service. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Cromwell. Memorial contributions may be directed to Creston Specialty Care or Care Initiatives Hospice. Joyce Arlene Means, daughter of Harold Allen Sr. and Agnes Lusie (Christensen) Young, was born Aug. 25, 1946, in Creston. When Joyce was 3, the family moved to Linn Grove, and then on to Rolfe, before returning back to Creston in 1962. She graduated from Creston High School with the class of 1964. After graduation, she began to work at Purolator in Creston.

On Dec. 18, 1966, Joyce married Dan Means at the Creston United Methodist Church and one son, Lance, was born to this union. The two later divorced. Joyce worked at the Cromwell branch of Iowa State Savings Bank until it closed, and then worked at the Creston branch until her retirement.

Joyce was a member of Cromwell Congregational United Church of Christ.

Joyce is survived by her son Lance (Lori) Means of Creston; grandchildren, Rochelle, Lianna, Londynn and Lincoln Means; great-grandson Von Hudson; sister Cheral (John) Morgan of Clear Lake; nephews, Terry (Tricia) Applegate of Gilmore City and Todd (Jody) Applegate of Clear Lake; as well as many other relatives and friends.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Harold Sr. and Agnes; brother Harold Jr. and brother-in-law Eugene Applegate.
