University of Iowa Symphony Orchestra booked for Greenfield

GREENFIELD – The Warren Cultural Center in Greenfield will bring a special performance to town Friday, Feb. 23.

The University of Iowa Symphony Orchestra, directed by Dr. William LaRue Jones and made up of 80 undergraduate and graduate student musicians from the University of Iowa, will present a 7 p.m. concert.

Due to the size of the orchestra, the concert will be held at Nodaway Valley High School in Greenfield.

The University of Iowa Symphony Orchestra has been hailed as one of the finest university orchestras in the U.S. The organization is one of the leaders in the premiering and promoting of new literature. This concert will feature selections from Bernstein/Mason “West Side Story,” Tchaikovsky “Romeo and Juliet” and Shostakovich “Piano Concerto No. 2” with Ksenia Nosikova, UI professor in piano, as well as new material.

Nosikova has performed extensively to critical acclaim in Europe, Asia, Russia, Canada and South America, as well as across the United States. A graduate of Moscow Conservatory, where she received her undergraduate and masters’ degrees, she earned her Doctoral degree from the University of Colorado. She is currently a professor of piano and co-chair of piano area at University of Iowa.

Admission to the concert is by free-will donation at the door. Suggested amount is $10, with no advance reservations.
