Area boys basketball roundup: Jan. 17 update

Twin Cedars 72, Orient-Macksburg 46

BUSSEY — Dewayne Figgins and Carson Thompson both tossed in 14 points apiece as the Orient-Macksburg Bulldogs fell by 26 Friday.

Stephen Buckman scored 10 points and Blake Thompson added eight.

The Bulldogs dropped a contest to East Union 87-20 on Monday to drop to 0-13. The coverage from that game is in Wednesday's CNA.

Murray 58, Iowa Christian Acacemy 34

Mount Ayr 44, Murray 31

WEST DES MOINES — Reece Held and Payton Flaherty each contributed 11 points apiece, as Held also added 11 rebounds and four assists in Murray's 24-point win at ICA Friday,

Jimmy Graham added 10 points, and Devin Slaughter contributed seven points and five asists.

MOUNT AYR — Isaac Grose led Mount Ayr with 12 points and 10 rebounds in the Raiders' 13-point home win over Murray.

Luke Wurster added nine points and seven came from Dawson Frost.

Held led Murray with 12 points and Flaherty grabbed seven rebounds.

Murray fell to 8-4 and still sits at 6-3 in the Bluegrass.

Mount Ayr (10-3, 8-2) defeated Nodaway Valley 58-48 Tuesday. Coverage of that game was in Wednesday's News Advertiser.

Pleasantville 63, NV 56

PLEASANTVILLE — Spencer Thompson led the way with 19 points, but the Trojans outscored the Wolverines by seven (21-14) in a close fourth quarter Friday.

The Trojans forced 16 steals, assisted on 17 baskets, and outrebounded NV 40-31.

Brady Hilpipre scored 16 points and Aryll Shantz had 10.

Clay Hohertz led NV with six rebounds.

GREENFIELD — Spencer Thompson took charge with 27 points, eight rebounds and five assists in a competitive matchup with visiting Panorama Saturday, but the Wolverines fell by eight.

Thompson knocked down four of his eight 3-pointers.

Brady Hilpipre added 12 points, eight rebounds and five steals.

Central Decatur 80, Southwest Valley 57

Bedford 66, Southwest Valley 60

LEON — Trenton Drake scored 17 points, grabbed eight rebounds and plucked four steals, but Southwest Valley couldn't come back from an early deficit in a 23-point loss Friday.

Carter Boothe put up a gaudy statline of 27 points, 11 assists and six steals for the Cardinals.

BEDFORD — Grant Maurer and Trenton Drake were the only Timberwolves in double figures (16 each) as Southwest Valley stuck close to, but ultimately fell to Bedford by six Tuesday.

Chance Tepoel grabbed 18 rebounds and Drake plucked down 14 boards of his own. Maurer also had five assists.

Cooper Nally and Brennan Sefrit each scored 15 apiece for the Bulldogs, who improved to 9-1 in the POI.

Southwest Valley is 5-8 and 3-7 in the POI.

Mormon Trail 83, Diagonal 69

GARDEN GROVE — Diagonal had trouble stopping Mormon Trail in the second quarter of Friday's game, falling behind after a 28-13 advantage for Mormon Trail in a 14-point loss.

Blake Alden scored 22 points and grabbed 16 rebounds. Kole Paxson added 17 points.

LAMONI — A slow first half kept Diagonal at bay in a 16-point loss at Lamoni Tuesday.

Paxson and Ty Taylor each scored 14 points apiece and Kade Klommhaus added 12 more to go with eight rebounds. Both Paxson and Taylor knocked down four 3-pointers each.

East Union 44, Lenox 29
