Craig Cordell, 54, of Creston died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Celebration of life memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 15, at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25, in Creston. The Rev. Tony Thurston will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Graceland Cemetery in Creston. Open visitation was from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 14, with family present from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Craig Eugene Cordell, son of Harold Eugene “Slim” Cordell and Beverly Elaine (Stevens) Cordell, was born Nov. 10, 1963, in Creston. He graduated from Creston High School with the class of 1982. After graduating with an Associate’s degree at SWCC, Craig studied at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri. Craig worked with Gilley Glass Company during his high school years. He sold insurance in the Creston area and worked with his dad at Cordell Construction. Craig also moved a lot of snow for area businesses. He worked as a bartender with Sidetracked through the winters. Later on, Craig operated and managed the Cordell Construction business.

Craig was a member of Creston Eagles Lodge, Iowa A.B.A.T.E. and the local Creston Motorcycle Club.

Craig is survived by his mother Beverly and step-father Jim Roberts of Creston; sister Julie Cordell of Creston; nephew Jason (Deb) Cordell of Urbana; nieces, Lacey (Nick) Giunta of Urbandale and Kyla (Aaron) O’Boyle of Grimes; great-niece Lola Grace Cordell; great-nephews, Gus and A.J. Giunta; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Craig was preceded in death by his father Slim Cordell in 2003; brother Troy in 1994; grandparents, Wayne Stevens, Harvey and Evelyn Chapman and Cecil and Minnie Cordell; uncle Albert “Cotton” Cordell and cousins, David Haidsiak and Terry Carroll.
