SWCC women 5-6 heading into break

DES MOINES — SWCC’s women’s basketball team struggled struggled in its last game before the winter break in an 80-47 loss to hosts Grand View JV, the second loss for the Spartans to the Vikings this season.

The Spartans had a rough go of things shooting from the floor, making just 14 of 62 shots (22.6 percent). Fallyn Beemer led the Panthers with her 10 points and Chelsey Trautloff added seven points, both from the bench.

Jasmine Aviles and Vanessa Romo each scored eight points, as T’Keyah Stapleton added five rebounds, three assists and two steals, but went 2 of 14 shooting.

Tina Lair van-Meter, an effective inside presence for the Spartans, missed her second straight game heading into the break.

The Spartan women sit 5-6 at the break and have been battling injury issues. SWCC’s first game after the break will be Jan. 5 at Kishwaukee College in Malta, Illinois.
