On Monday, Dec. 11, Iowa Select Farms and the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation will give away 500 pork loins to anyone in need in Creston. Starting at 7 a.m., Iowa Select Farms employees will gather at Southwestern Community College, 1501 W. Townline St., to hand out free, five-pound pork loins to anyone in need. The lively event includes festive costumes, lights, music and other celebrations of the season. The event is expected to end at 9 a.m.
2017 marks the first year that Operation Christmas Meal will hit the road to deliver fresh, five-pound pork loins to Iowans in rural areas. For the past six years, Operation Christmas Meal has been held exclusively at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines.
Iowa Select Farms is proud to be a homegrown Iowa company, with 1,100 employees all over the state, including several in Creston. In fact, it was feedback from employees talking about their neighbors who work hard all year and could use a helping hand during the holidays that inspired this year’s tour of 12 towns with Operation Christmas Meal.
Operation Christmas Meal is one of many initiatives put on each year by the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation, which was launched in 2006 to combat hunger in Iowa, show gratitude to members of the Armed Services and their families and strengthen efforts to find a cure for childhood cancer while improving the quality of life for cancer patients.
