Panthers live on the edge for 3-0 night at Atlantic

Creston/O-M leaves no doubt about being a Hawkeye 10 contender

ATLANTIC — Coach Darrell Frain was anxious heading into Tuesday’s dual about the impeding task of going toe-to-toe with powerful Hawkeye 10 foes Red Oak and Atlantic.

In a crowded and loud gym, the Panthers pulled out all the stops in defeating Red Oak 48-30 to start the night, Atlantic 36-30 to win the second dual and finished the evening with a 60-24 win over AHSTW.

It wasn’t just the victories that had Frain fired up.

“The fact that we worked for bonus points and everybody fought through, was pretty pleased with how that went,” Frain said.

Creston/O-M picked up pin after pin in the win over the Tigers.

Jackson Kinsella, Kolby Tomas, Blake Sevier, Kaden Bolton, Beau Thompson and Mitchell Swank all registered falls in the win to start the night.

That set the tone for fierce efforts throughout the lineup the rest of the evening.

“Everybody wrestled really well there,” Frain said. “I think the matches we lost we were underdogs in those matches anyway.”

The second dual came down to the wire, as several Panthers kept matches to decisions instead of major decisions or pins to keep Atlantic from piling up points.Frain cited Blake Sevier and Beau Thompson for keeping their matches to decisions against superior opponents.

“To get to that point, wrestling is one of those sports where you can lose and help your team,” Frain said.

Rylan Luther at 152 pounds notched a 7-5 decision over the Trojans’ Colton Mudd and Jackson Kinsella squeaked out a 3-2 decision over Connor Pellett at 160 pounds in the final moments of the match to clinch the victory in a frenzied fashion.

“The crowd was into it both on sides,” Frain said. “The kids were into it. Everybody finished the night well for us.”

UP NEXT — The Pathers head to Central Decatur Friday and send the JV to Bedford/Lenox’s invitational at Lenox High School on Saturday.
