Murray 73, Diagonal 46
MURRAY — Reece Held filled up the stat sheet with 23 points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals in Murray’s emphatic 73-46 win over visiting Diagonal on Friday.
The Mustangs raced out to 28 points in the first quarter and never allowed any large runs from the Maroons.
Devin Slaughter scored 14 for Murray. Other Murray scoring leaders were Payton Flaherty (9), Jeran Cosner (6) and Rilee Werner (6).
Second chances at shots proved big for Murray, who pulled down 21 offensive boards, of which came from the combination of Held, Snyder and Werner.
Blake Alden led Diagonal with 18 points and 12 rebounds.
Tanner Parman added eight points, while Ty Taylor scored six and added six rebounds.
Diagonal 65, Orient-Macksburg 22
DIAGONAL —Four players reached double figures as Diagonal handed visiting Orient-Macksburg a heavy loss on Monday.
Tanner Parman’s 17 points led the Maroons, while Blake Alden boasted a statline of 13 points, 13 rebounds and four steals.
Kade Klommhaus contributed to the effort with 11 points and nine rebounds and Ty Taylor scored 10 and grabbed seven rebounds.
The Maroons were strong on the boards, with 20 of their 45 total rebounds coming on the offensive end.
Carson Thompson led the Bulldogs with six points.
Mormon Trail 66, Murray 38
GARDEN GROVE — Murray fell behind 12 points in the first quarter and did not respond well enough in a 66-38 loss at Mormon Trail Tuesday.
Levi Snyder led the Mustangs with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Southwest Valley 60, East Union 50
AFTON — East Union used a strong third quarter to stick close to visiting Southwest Valley Friday, but the more experienced Timberwolves made the plays it needed in a 60-50 win.
Chance Cobb scored 14 points, had eight rebounds and six assists. Also scoring 14 was Grant Maurer (who added 10 rebounds).
Jace Petersen scored 13 and Trenton Drake added 12 for Southwest Valley.
Kyle Campbell led the EU offense with 24 points, as Trevor Jones and Matt McGuire both added 10 points apiece.
Southwest Valley 74, Lenox 34
CORNING — Southwest Valley’s pressure-oriented defense overhwelmed visiting Lenox Tuesday and outscored the Tigers 23-2 in the first quarter.
Trenton Drake was an efficient 9 of 11 shooting for 22 points and also plucked 12 rebounds from the glass.
Grant Maurer played distributor and scorer with 10 assists and 10 points for the victors. Southwest valley shared the ball effectively with 22 total assists. Scotty Adcock also scored 10.
The Timberwolves moved to 4-0 and Lenox dropped to 1-2.
Bedford 83, Nodaway Valley 62
BEDFORD — Four Wolverines scored in double figures but the Nodaway Valley defense could not slow down its hosts, Bedford in a 21-point Friday loss.
Spencer Thompson’s 20 points led the Wolverines, as Tyler Vandewater contributed 15, Aryll Shantz scored 12 and Brady Hilpipre added 10.
Four Bedford players scored at least 16 points, led by Damien Henry’s 20. Brennan Sefrit and Abe Weed each scored 17 points and Cooper Nally added 16. Weed led all players with 11 assists.
Bedford 53, Mount Ayr 41
BEDFORD — Dawson Frost led Mount Ayr with 10 points and 10 rebounds on an off shooting night and John Young added nine points for the Raiders.
Mount Ayr fell to 3-1 and Bedford sits at 3-0.
