Family ties in Creston for Atlantic hurdler headed Iowa

Reed placed at state in 110 HH; 400 LH at state

ATLANTIC — Atlantic senior Gratt Reed signed a National Letter of Intent with the University of Iowa track team Friday.

Reed is coming off a junior season in which he placed fourth in the 110-meter high hurdles and sixth in the 400-meter low hurdles at the Coed State Track and Field Meet. He set a personal record of 14.25 in the high hurdles in the semifinals of the USATF Hershey National Junior Olympic Track and Field Championships in Lawrence, Kansas.

Reed's grandparents include John Spriggs of Creston and Carolyn Deacon of Kansas City. Great-grandmother is Alice Spriggs of Creston. Ricci Spriggs, a member of Creston's state volleyball team in 1987 as well as a softball player and track standout, has operated Dance Atlantic in Atlantic since 1994.
