Elizabeth Jensen, 106, of Fontanelle died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017, at Good Samaritan Society in Fontanelle.

Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fontanelle with burial in Fontanelle Cemetery. The Rev. Steven Broers officiated the service. Visitation with family present was from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, at Steen Funeral Home, 525 Maple St., in Fontanelle. Mary Elizabeth (Chapman) Jensen, daughter of Arthur and S. Elvira (O’Brien) Chapman, was born Dec. 18, 1910, in Adair County. Elizabeth grew up on the family farm south of Fontanelle. She attended the local one-room schoolhouse until the townships consolidated. She graduated from Richland Consolidated Schools in 1928.

On Dec. 25, 1930, she married George C. Jensen. They spent their married years farming, until semi-retiring and moving into Fontanelle in 1970.

She was a member of Pleasant Grove United Church, until the church closed. She taught Sunday school classes, was a 4-H youth leader and active in the women’s organizations. After the Pleasant Grove Church closed, she attended Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fontanelle the last years of her life.

Elizabeth is survived by her sons, Bruce Jensen of Bridgewater and Keith Jensen (Barbara) of Cary, North Carolina; daughter June Paxton (Ben) of Greenfield; daughter-in-law Ione Jensen of Fontanelle; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Liania Sheets of Nebraska; other relatives and friends.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents; husband George C. Jensen; son Andy Jensen; brother David Chapman; sister Alice (in infancy) and daughters-in-law, Jane Jensen and Cheryl Jensen.
