Southern Prairie YMCA’s largest annual fundraiser, titled a “Night of Magic,” is set for 5:30 p.m. Saturday evening.
The public can expect a “magical” mix and mingle, followed by a smoked prime rib dinner, auction and a performance by Magician Bruce Jacoby of “Colorful Magic by Bruce.”
“We’re looking forward to this fun and new event for the YMCA,” said Raquel Linch, Southern Prairie YMCA office manager. “We’re hoping for a successful night.
“Money raised will go toward our program and membership assistance,” said Linch, “and then this event also kicks off our annual giving campaign which helps us throughout the year, allowing us to help out so many more people.”
After a brief mix and mingle, in which visitors will tour the Y’s facilities, enjoy appetizers and learn about recent equipment additions and new program offerings while Jacoby performs magic tricks, a smoked rib dinner will be followed by a fundraising auction.
Some examples of items up for auction include a Creston Fire Department fire truck ride and station tour, a tailgating package for 30, homemade pies, a two-night Rocky Mountain getaway and an acoustic guitar and lessons package. The public is free to browse through auction items before the Saturday event.
Once the auction has concluded, Jacoby will perform a show for attendees.
Jacoby has been performing magic shows for audiences of all kinds for 18 years. He hails from Lincoln, Nebraska, and performs shows throughout Nebraska and western Iowa.
“It’s going to be a night of magic that’s filled with mysteries and wonder and a lot of laughs,” said Jacoby. “I use a ton of volunteers, and we’ll be doing some tricks with cards, and rope, and we’ll be doing some strange things with a few people’s minds in the audience.”
Reservations for a “Night of Magic” may be purchased at the Southern Prairie YMCA located at 1201 W. Townline St., or by phone at 641-782-9622.
Tickets are $35 each or $60 for a couple, and $30 for reserved tables.
