This Saturday is our annual Holiday to Holiday event. This year’s event has a change of venue and will be under the “big top” next to Hy-Vee.
There will lots of booths, several demonstrations and plenty of treats to test out. We are only two months away from Christmas! This event is always pretty good about giving ideas for the Christmas season. There will also be plenty of “tastings” going on in the store. The event goes from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.. The folks at St. Malachy also have their kickoff to Christmas at the school on the same day. So you’ll have plenty of “get in the spirit” places to go Saturday.
Saturday is also the annual Bright Eyes event in McKinley Park. The event is a wonderful way to take your kids out trick-or-treating in a safe venue.
There is always plenty of candy and lots of booths for the kids to visit. It looks like Mother Nature will provide some fall weather for the event. So dress warm!
The annual beggars night will be next Tuesday. So if the kids don’t get enough candy on Saturday, they will have a second chance to pick up another bucketfull! Halloween is getting to just about as big of a holiday as Christmas anymore. It seems like there are more and more outside decorations all the time promoting the holiday.
The local Cyclone fans should be in good spirits with the football team ranked for the first time in several years.
This week’s game with TCU should be a good test for the team. If they can pull the upset this week, they’ll be headed deep into the rankings. The next challenge they may have is trying to keep their coach when several teams come calling at the end of the season. Matt Campbell has done a great job of coaching this year. It may be tough to get him out of Iowa State if he has to be bought out to the tune of around $20 million.
There are also a lot of Northwest Missouri State alums in the area who are pretty proud of the Bearcats being undefeated this late in the season. Of course, they have won 38 games in a row dating back to 2015! WOW!
We are not far away from the end of Daylight Saving Time. Nov. 5 is when you set your clock back an hour. It will nice to get the light back in the morning, but it sure makes the night time long. It is Part of the fun of fall.
Election day is Tuesday, Nov. 7. It’s not quite as big of an election as last year, but there will be plenty of local races to pick from.
There sure seems to be a lot of houses for sale around town. It’s been a while since I’ve seen so many for sale signs out on lawns, which is good in some respects due to the fact it has been more of a seller’s market the last few years.
Having some inventory for people might help get some folks moving into town. I hear that nine of the new condos out in the Taylor Addition have been sold. Several more are under construction, plus SWCC is working on one of the units.
