St. John’s Evening Fellowship

St. John’s Evening Fellowship met Oct. 9 with 13 members present. Devotions were given by Carol Wallace. The Least Coin was collected. Tammy Willets conducted the business meeting. The secretary’s report was read and approved. Wallace gave the treasurer’s report, which was read and approved. Peggy Erskine gave a card report and asked we contact her with anyone who needs a card sent to them.

Names were drawn for the gift exchange to be held in December at the annual Christmas party.

Final plans were made for the soup supper from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23. Members were reminded of the cowboy-themed day potluck Sunday, Oct. 22, following church services. Members worked on finishing labels in the new hymnals. Betty Lynam will take a song book to Kenny Bradley for his 86th birthday, which has his name in the front. The trivia question was read and the prize was won by Joan Chubick. Refreshments were served by Wallace.

Kiwanis

The weekly Kiwanis meeting was held 12:05 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, at the Windrow meeting room with 20 members and three guests. President Korina Loudon presided, Jim Morris gave the prayer and Bill Kunert was the finemaster.

The program was given by Greg Anderson, anesthesiologist with GRMC. He discussed his education and experiences with surgery and procedures helping patients. He is also furthering his education to be able to offer more non-opioid pain programs in the future at the hospital.

The club will have a food drive for Kiwanis One Day in October. Collections will be taking place Oct. 23-27, and the final event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, at Hy-Vee. Members will place carts at the following Creston banks in the community: ISSB, FNB, PCSB and GWB, with distribution to the local food banks.

The Kiwanis Club “Keep a Kid Warm” coat giveaway will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct 26, at Creston First United Methodist Church, 400 N. Elm St. Advertising and help sign up is currently being done.

The Christmas wreath fundraising program is going on now with members selling fresh wreaths and swags until Oct. 31 and delivery in November. Contact any member to purchase.

Ladies Lakeshore Auxiliary

Ladies Lakeshore Auxiliary met Oct. 11.

Canasta winners were Rose Blakesley, first; Barb Bills, second; and Loretta Kelly, third.

Sharon Gile won the door prize.

Board members will host cards and chatter Wednesday, Oct. 18.
