Philip Swanson, 58, of Creston was pronounced dead at the scene after a fatal accident that occurred 7:35 a.m. Monday morning at the intersection of Highway 2 and Highway 25 in Ringgold County.
According to a Ringgold County Sheriff report, Gary Clausen, 51, of Huxley, was driving a 2016 Volvo east on Highway 2 when he looked down at his GPS and drove through a stop sign, failing to yield for Swanson’s 2005 Chrysler, and Swanson struck the passenger side of the trailer Clausen was towing. Clausen was uninjured in the accident.
Charges are pending, and the incident remains under investigation by the Ringgold County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa State Patrol.
