CORNING — With five consecutive victories, Southwest Valley volleyball heads into its upcoming home tournament with a full head of steam.
The Timberwolves defeated Nodaway Valley Tuesday in four sets 23-25, 25-20, 25-6, 26-24.
Four Timberwolves had at least five kills, led by Jentry Schafer’s 13. Schafer added three blocks.
Alaina Currin and Hailey Thomas combined for 27 digs, and Thomas boasted 29 assists.
Of Southwest Valley’s 98 serves, 88 were successful, and 15 were aces.
“Tonight was a good win for us. We struggled with serving again and didn’t reach that 90% mark until set four,” Southwest Valley coach Lindsay Wetzel said. “It was good for my girls to be able to come back in set four being down several points on NV’s (set) point. We need to continue focusing on serving, reducing unforced errors and staying consistent from set to set.”

MURRAY — Six matches, six wins for the Murray Lady Mustangs, who have yet to yield a set to an opponent this fall season.
Murray defeated Melcher-Dallas and Diagonal in two sets in its home triangular on Tuesday.
“We were able to move the ball around,” Murray coach Jerry Shields said. “We were in the acceptable range for serving. Still need to keep working on our first pass to the setter.”
Zoie Lecy had nine kills in the win over Melcher-Dallas.
The Lady Mustangs only missed six total serves over their two matches.
Diagonal defeated Melcher-Dallas in consecutive sets 25-15, 25-10.
The Maroonettes earned their points by taking care of the easy parts of the game, serving successfully on 47 of 48 serves.
Cassie Lohmann served successfully on all 15 of his attempts and tallied 10 assists.
Bailey Taylor had six kills and Emily Newton had four.
Taylor had 10 digs and Katie Sobotka had seven digs in the Murray loss.
UP NEXT — Murray (6-0) plays Southeast Warren (12-4) today (Thursday). Diagonal (3-3) plays host to Ankeny Christian Academy (5-10) today (Thursday).

MOUNT AYR — A clean sweep of Tuesday’s home match moved Mount Ayr back to .500 at 7-7.
The Raiderettes won 25-13, 25-20, 25-17.
Keirston Klommhaus led the way with 11 kills, Alyssa Johnson posted 17 assists and Hayley Whittington recorded 10 digs.
The Raiderettes set up their walls well with eight blocks.
Brooke Miller led Lenox with six kills and Brooke Henrichs was 13 of 13 serving.
Mount Ayr (7-7) plays at Nodaway Valley (4-12) Tuesday.
