Carol M. (Cheers) Pugh, 92, of Arispe died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017, at Greater Regional Hospice Home in Creston.

Celebration of life services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Arispe. The Rev. Joel Sutton will officiate the service. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Afton. Open visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Powers Funeral Home, 612 N. Dodge St., in Afton. Carol Maurine (Brock) Pugh, daughter of David Lewis Brock and Emma Grace (Smith) Brock, was born Feb. 2, 1925, on the family farm in rural Shannon City. She was educated in Arispe Consolidated Schools and graduated with the class of 1943. She attended the Iowa Teachers College in Corning and taught that fall at Tingley No. 1 in Ringgold County.

On Sept. 3, 1944, Carol married Wayne A. Cheers. They lived on the farm until April 1978, when they moved into Arispe. While in Arispe, Carol worked as the city clerk and as a homemaker. Wayne died in 1986.

On April 26, 1990, Carol married Lester ‘Bus’ Pugh. Together, they resided in Arispe. Lester died in 1995.

Carol was a member of Arispe United Methodist Church, of which she was a long time treasurer.

Carol is survived by her sons, Ron (Mary Lou) Cheers, Roger (Donna) Cheers and Ed (Cindy) Cheers, all of Afton; grandchildren, Sarah (William) Long, Brenda (Dusten) Carrington, Ronda (Jason) Driskill, Callista (Nick) Wilkey, Rod Cheers, Gail Cheers, Paula (Harold) Johnston, Tony Cheers (significant other Shanna), Stephanie Fluckey (significant other TJ), Joey Fluckey, Casey (Heather) Fluckey, Tara (Eric) Herzberg, Ryan (Kim) Cheers and Drew (Erin) Cheers; 37 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Wayne Cheers and Lester Pugh; step son David Pugh; grandson-in-law Philip Riemenschneider; sisters, Roberta (Leonard) Clark and Cleo (Carl) Shrader and infant siblings, Loyce, Florence and Berneta.
