CORNING – Eighty-one cars hit the dirt at the Adams County Speedway on Saturday night for Arnold Motor Supply Night with an increased purse presented by 1st Call Bail Bonds. The increased purse made it $200 to win Compacts, $350 to win B-Modifieds and Hobby Stocks, $400 to win Stock Cars, $500 to win Modifieds, and Blaine’s Services then stepped up and added $100 to both the Modified and Stock Car purse making them $600 and $500 to win, respectively.
Chat Mobility Hobby Stocks
Luke Ramsey came into Saturday night with his sights set on picking up his 10th win of the season in the Chat Mobility Hobby Stocks. Ramsey also came into the night looking to clinch the track championship a week in advance.
Ramsey managed to do both Saturday night, but it wasn’t easy. Tim McCollum led the early stages of the caution-plagued race, but Tom Myers took the lead with seven laps to go and appeared to be on his way to his first win of the year. But, Ramsey squashed those hopes taking the lead on the white flag lap to pick up his 10th win of the season, while also clinching the track championship. Myers came home in second, followed by Chris Bates, Steve Shepard and Tim McCollum.
Tri-State Ford Compacts
Veteran driver Chris Vannausdle has been to victory lane before at the Adams County Speedway, but while his son Bryan has won in the Tri-State Ford Compacts, Chris had failed to do so prior to Saturday night.
Chris Vannausdle led the entire race, holding off a hard charge from Curtis Miller before mechanical problems ended his night early. Chris Vannausdle then had to hold off a hard charge from last weeks’ winner Bobby Key. Key gave Chris Vannausdle all he had, but it wasn’t enough as Chris Vannausdle held on for his first win at ACS since winning the Hobby Stock feature at the 2009 tradition. Key came home in second, followed by points leader Dustin Thompson in third, Evan Hrabik in fourth and Luke Ramsey rounded out the top five.
Stalker Chevrolet B-Modifieds
Jeremy Houck is no stranger to victory lane. The former stock car champion and late model hot shoe is a newcomer to the Stalker Chevrolet B-Modifieds. But, his veteran experience showed on Saturday night, as he picked up his first win of the season in vintage Jeremy Houck style by riding the bottom side to victory.
Houck started up front and led the entire race despite hard charges from both Josh Sink and Jerod Weston, who came into the night looking to clinch a track championship. A late-race caution made things interesting, but Houck hit his marks on the restart to collect the win. Sink finished in second and Weston clinched the championship by finishing third. Shawn Kralik and Kody Havens rounded out the top five.
Northland Oil Stock Cars
The Northland Oil Stock Car championship is bound to come down to the wire. Joe Zadina came into the night with an eight-point lead over Tony Hardisty. Meanwhile, Creston native Kevin Sharp had said earlier in the night that he was there to make money and not friends. He definitely made money, dominating en route to his second win of the season.
Sharp wasted no time passing Cody Clark for the lead. Sharp dominated the feature to collect the $500 payday while the rest of the field put on an exciting battle. Tony Hardisty chipped into Zadina’s lead by finishing second. Jason Minnehan came home in third followed by Joe Zadina in fourth. Cody Clark rounded out the top five. This week’s championship battle is bound to be exciting as Zadina leads Hardisty by a mere eight points.
Poet Bio-Refining Modifieds
The Poet Bio-Refining Modifieds always seem to put on an exciting show, but throw in a $600 payday and they put on an even better show, Prescott native Jesse Dennis, in particular.
Dennis had to battle with polesitter and points leader Jeff James in the early stages of the race. He took the lead from James and checked out from there to pick up his third win of the year and second in a row. James extended his points lead by finishing in second. Ryan Jenkins finished in third, followed by Jacob Hobscheidt in fourth and Todd Van Eaton in fifth.
This week
Adams County Speedway ends the season with a bang with R&S Auto Championship Night. R&S Auto has promised an increased purse. It will also be championship night for the Karl’s Chevrolet Dirt Trucks, as they make their second appearance to ACS this season. Hot laps begin at 6:30 p.m. with racing to follow at 7.
