Creston’s newest and only uptown art supply store will open its doors Tuesday.

The store, Create Creston, will be a full-service art supply store built toward helping anyone with their art or crafts projects along the way.

“We are going to be a full-service art supply store,” said Brian Zachary co-owner of Create Creston. “And so the one side has everything you’d expect in an art supply store.”

Already hanging from the walls on the right side of the store are rainbows of paint colors, earrings, paintings and finished works of art.

The left side of the store will be dedicated to a multitude of classes. Such classes will be available once or twice a week.

Classes will include painting, ceramics, crafts and more. Surveys will be available in-store for customers to decide what type of classes they want to have and when.

Classes are expected to begin in September.

Customers don’t have to adhere to the specific class schedule. Equipment and instructors will be available for those who visit the store outside of class times.

“Somebody could come in anytime that we are open and not having another class and say, ‘I’d like to use the ceramics equipment, I’d like to use the craft equipment,’” said Zachary. “So we will have an hourly rate or an hourly rate with an instructor.”

Create Creston hopes to put together an after-school drawing class once the store gets up and running.

“For whatever ages want to sign up for that,” said Zachary. “Not necessarily for a kid, but kid-centered.”

The store will also feature a wide-ranging catalog that will give customers the option of ordering anything the store may not have in-stock.

The store will feature already created products and crafts by professionals that will be available for purchase.

“We have also been going around to craft fairs and art shows and things like that and buying unique hand-made gifts,” said Zachary. “And so that’s kind of the unifying factor is that they are all hand made by an artisan.”

Zachary said that the store will be useful for hobbies, gift ideas, crafts, and the most unique card selection in town.

Create Creston will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday for its grand opening. The store itself is located at 104 N. Maple St.

Zachary was excited to get started in downtown Creston. “I think it’s going to become a really hot corridor in Creston,” said Zachary. “Good things have been happening in Creston.

“We had kind of always thought that we wanted to have a building uptown. We really wanted to support the uptown and especially the historic core.”

The building itself has become the owners’ very own art project.

“We have yanked out a dropped ceiling, and exposed this (brick) wall, and put in windows over there and really put a lot into it,” said Zachary. “We are extremely proud. We think it looks really nice and can’t wait to activate the space with people, and fun – art and creativity.”

Though it will be owned by some similar faces, Create Creston will not be associated with Creston: Arts, but will work with the company on occasion.

“I’m the secretary still of Creston: Arts, and so we will probably be doing a lot of work with Creston: Arts but it needs to be clearly distinguished that this isn’t Creston: Arts,” said Zachary.

Those who wish to use the space for parties can do so as well.

“You can also engage us to do parties,” said Zachary. “So if you want to have a party here we can do any of the craft setups.”

Create Creston will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, along with some limited Saturday hours.

Contacting Create Creston can be done through its email at createcreston@gmail.com or on its Facebook page, Create Creston.

Create Creston will have a website, but the launch date for the site has not been determined.
