Creston blood drive celebrates Red Cross centennial

Red Cross established in southwest Iowa 100 years ago

The Creston community is invited to help celebrate the American Red Cross’ century of service in southwest Iowa by donating blood from noon to 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 21, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 800 N. Sumner Ave, in Creston.

A Red Cross chapter was established in 1917 in Omaha, serving communities in southwest Iowa. With the support of volunteers and donors, the Red Cross has expanded to help countless people, including those in need of blood.

“We could not help those who need blood without the generosity of donors in communities across Iowa,” said Carrie Hauschild, donor recruitment account manager, Midwest blood services region. “Patients depend on volunteer donors, and we’re grateful for everyone who takes the time to donate.”

This blood drive comes when the Red Cross is facing a critical blood shortage and has issued an emergency call for donors of all types to give now so patients can continue to receive the lifesaving treatments they need. Blood products are being distributed to hospitals as fast as donations are coming in, and more donations are needed now to replenish the blood supply.

All who come out to give at the Creston centennial blood drive will receive a Red Cross insulated travel mug or stadium seat and refreshments, while supplies last.
