Iowa Alpha Sigma Master Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi enjoyed a social evening Thursday, July 27, at El Ranchito in Afton with all members in attendance. They were notified the Aug. 10 meeting will be held at McKinley Park in Creston and each person should bring a school-day type lunch.

Creston Lions Club
Creston Lions Club members met Tuesday evening, Aug. 1, at the Pizza Ranch. Newly elected president, Jerry Katzer, opened the meeting by leading in the Pledge of Allegiance. Delmer Brown gave the invocation.
Following the meal, Katzer introduced Jan Krantz and Christy Ladd, daughters of recently deceased Carol Harrison. They expressed thanks for the support the Lions gave to Harrison during her illness. They also shared experiences from years past when their father, Lyle, a longtime member of the Lions Clubs in Lorimor and Creston, served as a district governor. As children, Krantz and Ladd accompanied their parents to many Lions meetings including international conventions in New York City and Chicago. Krantz and Ladd presented funds to Creston Lions in memory of their parents.
Lions Club member, Keith Worland, was the speaker for the evening. He is on the staff of Crossroads Behavioral Health Services. Locations for Crossroads include the home base in Creston, plus Corning, Lamoni, Lenox, Osceola and Winterset. Many services are offered through Crossroads as listed in the brochure Worland handed out. Likewise, there are many benefits for the counties served. In his speech, Worland emphasized the parent-child interaction therapy program. Crossroads receives funding through block grants as well as state and federal funding. Katzer presided over the business meeting. The minutes of the June meeting were approved as presented. The treasurer’s report was given by Tom Braymen and approved. The July Fourth bingo stand results were given. Members reviewed the new project to provide taxi service to the public on July Fourth. Items of business were upcoming events of the pork chop dinner and candy days to take place in September. Paul Fuller presented a pin to Stew Stewart for membership help for the club. Funds from the sale of Union County Centennial plates were presented by Jerrie Henderson. Discussion was held regarding items of clothing available to club members to promote the organization. Dean Brant reminded the club Ardie Klemish of Adair is serving as international director, which is an honor to her, as well as to the state of Iowa.
The next board meeting will be Aug. 30 at Stew Stewart’s office. The next club meeting will be 6:30 p.m. Sept. 5 at the Pizza Ranch.

Kiwanis
The weekly Kiwanis meeting was held 12:05 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1, at the Windrow meeting room with 16 members and two guests. President Chris Eaton presided, Ed Ritter gave the prayer and Terry Freeman was the finemaster.
The program was given by Wayne Pantini with Union County Development Association. He discussed the works of the association in keeping jobs in Union County and recruiting people to fill those jobs. Pantini also discussed a housing analysis that was done for the city of Creston and the percentages of homes that need major repairs, small repairs and new construction, and how that works when recruiting skilled people for the jobs available.

Ladies Lakeshore Auxiliary
Ladies Lakeshore Auxiliary met Aug. 2.
Canasta winners were Joy Seeley, first; Rose Blakesley, second; and Loretta Kelly, third.
Kelly won the door prize.
Blakesley will host cards and chatter Wednesday, Aug. 9.
