County fair experience was great

From Adam Riley

Des Moines

I am writing to talk about my experience at the Union County Fair this year. Growing up, I was a participant in the fair and went through our high school to do FFA activities. I always enjoyed my time there with friends, but had not been back since I graduated from high school because I moved away, but am still very proud to call Union County my home county.

I was excited to hear about some of the changes they were making to try to make the fair a better experience for the visitors who aren’t necessarily a part of the fair. I would have to say from my experience, it was a success. The schedule was better for me because I live and work in Des Moines now and am not able to make it during the week. Also, the entertainment was amazing, not to mention very reasonably priced. A new up-and-coming country artist, Jake Worthington, was brought in. He was a world-class talent and very classy human being. He got the crowd excited and seemed very thankful to be there and be the first entertainer the Union County Fair ever had.

I would like to congratulate the fair board on planning a great fair and all their hard work. I wish them all the best in planning bigger and better fairs in the future.

I will have to say, though, my one disappointment was the attendance at the new activity. I think it is great that the board cares so much about the people of our area to try and give them something to look forward to and have fun at. I just wish more county residents would recognize the hard work and come out in support. It was a terrific show and I hope this is something that will grow for years to come to bring more visitors to our great county.

I would like to thank the Union County Fair Board for all their hard work and hope they stay on for next year.
