New faith found in the system

From Jim Stalker

Creston

Wednesday, July 19, provided some real insight for me regarding the needed repair of our city streets. We have always seemed to compare what we should be doing by comparing what other towns our size are doing regarding salaries, repairs, upgrades and whatever. The problem with that? We are not always as able to keep up financially with some of the other similar in size towns. Sometimes, we have greater debt to deal with.

Southern Iowa does not do as well as northern Iowa. That’s just an opinion, but I was born in southern Iowa and I like it just fine. Most times, maybe not this year, our climate is better. Not as cold, not as hot and overall milder.

According to the street article, the council and the people involved are going at this problem slowly, looking at this or that and regarding expenses. Attacking this long overdue problem with a clear head. That’s comforting to me, what with high taxes and all.

In the meantime, John Hayes and his street crew have done a fine job with the seal coating this year and some blacktop repairs around town.

Slowly but surely, we’re coming around, and I’ve got new faith in the system.
