Creston Park and Rec Board Member
As a member of the Creston Park and Rec Board, I would like to take this opportunity to say “thank you” and explain how friends, neighbors, businesses and organizations have come together to make many improvements to Creston’s city parks.
Many sponsors help support our annual Party in the Park each summer. With their help, we have been able to bring in national bands, as well as local and regional bands. With the sponsors and each individual attending any of our events, the money raised is used to write grants to organizations such as South Central Iowa Community Foundation and Endow Union County which has contributed more than $110,000. We are very proud of our partnership with Endow Union County, our many sponsors and our friends in Creston and the surrounding communities who have supported our events and projects throughout the year. These projects have been completed a lot quicker with all the groups coming together and without asking the city council for any tax dollars.
In the past 11 years, we have been able to install new playgrounds, build a restroom/storm shelter, build and expand the walking trail through McKinley Park and the historical complex along with installing benches and lighting. We have built the Memorial Garden to the way it was years ago and, with a grant we recently received, we will be remodeling the shelter houses in McKinley Park.
