Wanting genealogy exhibits at county fair

The open class genealogy and history department would like to invite the public to enter exhibits at Union County Fair in Afton. Entries will be accepted from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday, July 20, or from 8 to 11 a.m. Friday, July 21, in the 4-H building on the fairgrounds. Rules for entries are listed in the Union County Fair Book. The open classes may also be viewed at the Union County Fair website at www.unioncountyfairiowa.com/open-class. There are both junior classes and adult classes. Judging will begin at 11 a.m. Friday. Special workshops in adult beginning genealogy will be offered during the fair in the genealogy and history department at no cost. They will be 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday, July 22.

Monday, July 24, is children’s day at the fair and Union County Genealogical Society will be sponsoring a youth coloring contest from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. for ages up to 16 years.
