Livestock entries in for county fair

GREENFIELD – Adair County 4-H and FFA members are busily preparing livestock for the Adair County Fair scheduled to open Wednesday, July 19. Each day is filled with shows and exhibits for the public to enjoy. All livestock, including rabbits, were entered and stalled by noon Wednesday. Poultry will be entered from 8 to 10 am. Thursday, July 20.

The dog show featuring dog obedience and handling classes began the show line-up 2 p.m. Wednesday on the east side of the fair shop.

Livestock judging contest was scheduled for 4 p.m. Wednesday, with registration from 3:30 to 4 p.m. Contest will be held in the swine show arena on the fairgrounds.

The Thursday schedule includes the swine show scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Swine returning home or to another location will be released from 6 to 10 a.m. Sunday, July 23, from the fairgrounds.

Poultry will be judged beginning at 3 p.m. Thursday.

The horse barn will be full again this year with 24 exhibitors in the horse show beginning at 8 a.m. Friday, July 21,

Friday’s schedule continues with sheep during the show scheduled for 9 a.m. Goats are scheduled for 11:3.0 am Friday.

The bucket/bottle calf show is scheduled to begin 4 p.m. Friday in the outdoor show arena following the interviews. Individual10-minute interviews with each exhibitor begin at 10 a.m. Friday as bucket calf records are evaluated.

Saturday, July 22, is packed with livestock and animal shows beginning with the cat show at 8 a.m. in the courtyard.

The rabbit show is scheduled for 9 a.m. in the gazebo on the fairgrounds courtyard.

The beef show will begin 8:30 am. Spectators can enjoy the junior feeder pen and cow/calf pen shows as the cattle are brought to the pens at the north end of the pen barn. The show moves to the outdoor show ring for breeding heifers and lead cow/calf pairs. The feeder calf show will follow immediately. The market beef show and beef showmanship will round out the activities in the show ring.

Saturday will also feature the dairy goat/dairy show at noon in the outdoor show ring.

The popular future 4-H’ers livestock/pet show is scheduled for 11 a.m. Sunday in the outdoor show arena. The show is open to all Adair and surrounding county residents ages 3 through completion of third grade. Youth do not need to be Clover Kids or Cloverbuds to participate. The purpose of the event is to offer a fun show for children.

The 4-H and FFA livestock shows at the fair will conclude with the market animal sale 3 p.m. Sunday. Community members can buy an animal or simply come and place a premium bid to reward the youth for their outstanding work.
