Larry “Pete” DeWitt, 79, of Prescott died Friday, June 23, 2017, at Afton Care Center in Afton.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, June 29, at Seventh-day Adventist Church, 104 N. Oak St., in Creston with the Rev. Duane Lauer officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Prescott. Open visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 28, with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Pearson Family Funeral Service and Cremation Center, 701 Seventh St., in Corning. Lawrence Ellis Dewitt Jr., son of Lawrence Ellis and Milla (Furman) DeWitt Sr., was born Oct. 21, 1937, in Kimball, Nebraska. He graduated from Rushville High School in Rushville, Nebraska, with the class of 1956. He later attended National College of Business in Rapid City, South Dakota, where he graduated with an associate degree.

On May 19, 1957, Pete married Stella Florence Amende in Rushville, Nebraska. Pete worked for the Nebraska Public Power District in Gordon, Nebraska, where he started as a meter worker and retired as district manager in 1997. Pete and Stella moved to Prescott in 1997, so Pete could start farming, but due do his health, he was unable to. Pete and Stella made Prescott their home since that time.

Pete was a member of Lion’s Club in Gordon, Nebraska, and Car Club in both Gordon and York, Nebraska. He was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Creston.

Pete is survived by his wife Stella of Prescott; sons, Steven DeWitt of Prescott and Doug (Kathleen) DeWitt of Ft. Calhoun, Nebraska; grandchildren, Shannon, Shaun, Alexandrea and Michelle; great-grandchildren, Courtney, Callie and Corbyn; sister Kathleen (Dennis) Cushing of Torrington, Wyoming; and many other relatives and friends.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents.
