Area baseball roundup: Mount Ayr boasts several area leaders

Mount Ayr 20, Bedford 4

MOUNT AYR — For the second time in a three-day span, the Mount Ayr offense crossed the 20-run threshold, defeating Bedford 20-4 at home Thursday in five innings.

Hunter Haveman, Zach Murphy and Isaac Grose batted a combined 11-for-13 with six runs and 10 RBIs.

As of Thursday, Haveman was near the top of the Pride of Iowa in batting average with a .550 average.

Erik Masoner cracked three base hits. Tristan Holmes, Keelan Klommhaus and Lucas Wurster each had two hits.

As of Thursday, Klommhaus led the Pride of Iowa with 63 strikeouts of opposing hitters and is top 10 in the state of Iowa in strikeouts.

Grose struck out five in four innings of work on the mound and Kole Paxson struck out two and didn’t allow a runner on base in the fifth to close out the victory.

Orient-Macksburg 12, Mormon Trail 5

ORIENT — Six runs in the first and hot bats throughout the game propelled Orient-Macksburg to a 12-5 win over Mormon Trail Thursday.

Blake Sevier bashed a home run and two doubles in the Bulldog victory as he went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs. Noah Nichols drove in three runs, as did Wiley Ray, who went 2-for-3.

Jackson Mikkelsen hit 2-for-3 with a triple. Treyg Webb and Triston Davidson both went 2-for-3.

Ray was the winning pitcher in Orient-Macksburg’s fourth win of the year. It won its fifth Friday at Murray.

Nodaway Valley 16, East Union 2

AFTON — After scoring just once in the first three innings, Nodaway Valley’s bats put together an onslought to end up on the right side of a 16-2 victory at East Union Thursday.

Spencer Lamb, Brandon Mangles, Spencer Thompson, Ryan Baudler and Corbin Bond each slapped two hits.

Both Bond and Brady Hilpire drove in three RBIs apiece. Lamb and Mangles both added two.

Levi Exline and Trevor Jones had the lone hits for the Eagles.

Thompson picked up the win for the Wolverines. He pitched all six innings, struck out six, allowed three hits and walked two.
