Parade of Homes set for Saturday

Looking for a future home design? Enjoy walking through houses? The Parade of Homes gives viewers that opportunity Saturday.

The Parade of Homes is sponsored by the Southwest Iowa Homebuilders Alliance (SIHA) and gives dreamers and idea seekers the opportunity to take in different design options.

SIHA is a local association created to promote local companies and individuals involved in building.

“Each year, it’s amazing. The people who will go, there are your dreamers,” said Craig Mittag, member of SIHA representing the Creston News Advertiser. “But there are a lot of people who go on the Parade of Homes to get ideas to build a home in the future.”

This year’s Parade of Homes features seven houses that were built and are for sale by various companies.

The seven houses are:

• 1405 Clayton Rd., by American Homes

• 1692 Summit Park Lane, by Brad Waltz

• 908 W. Adair St., by Habitat for Humanity

• 205 S. Elm St., by Winterstien Construction

• 310 S. Walnut St., by Habitat for Humanity

• 403 S. Elm St., by UCDA

• 1446 Highway 34, by Creston Mobile Homes

There is also a giveaway that viewers can enter to win at each home along the tour.

“At each home you can register for $500 in builders bucks,” said Mittag. “SIHA gives $500 and that is to be spent at any of the alliance members’ businesses.”

There are also booths at each home in this year’s parade. Those booths are from local businesses such as C&J Conservation LLC, First National Bank, ISSB, J&A Flooring, PCSB Bank, Stalker Chevrolet, UCDA and Westman Windows.

The alliance is giving away scholarships to three Southwestern Community College students this year. They are Jasper Fine, John (JD) Gordon and Devin Russo.

Admission on the Parade of Homes is free and SIHA expects anywhere from 200 to 300 people to attend this year’s gathering.

This year’s annual event runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
