1 dead, 2 injured after Lenox accident

LENOX — One person is dead and two are injured after an accident 6:50 p.m. Monday near Lenox.

According to Taylor County Sheriff and Iowa State Patrol reports, Zachary Edward Marxen, 19, of Lenox, driving a 2010 Ford north on Yellowstone Avenue north of County Road J13, collided nearly head on at the crest of a hill with a 2016 Cub Cadet utility task vehicle (UTV) on the roadway driven by Braxston Bradley, 10, of Prescott. Marxen’s vehicle entered the east ditch and the UTV came to rest on the roadway.

Denise Cynthia Smith, 60, of Lenox, a passenger of the UTV, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Justyce Bradley, 9, of Prescott, a passenger of the UTV, was transported by air ambulance to Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines and Braxston was transported by ground ambulance to Greater Regional Medical Center for treatment, where their conditions are currently unknown.

Smith, Justyce and Braxston were not wearing seat belts.

Assisting Taylor County Sheriff’s Office was Iowa State Patrol and Taylor County Ambulance.

The accident remains under investigation.
